Where it gets trickier and harder to prove is when you look at high res in general and MQA high res tracks. For those files, they are in excess of 16 bit, which isn't really a bad thing. So at the least, you are getting a 24 bit file with a file provenance indicator embedded below the noise floor, without any real file size compression via folding data into the noise floor for expanding to a higher sample rate. and a ton of MQA content on Tidal is at 44.1kHz and some 48kHz, fwiw. MQA encompasses tracks from 44.1/48kHz up to 352.8/384kHz, so the former group does not employ the folding compression technique MQA is known for. So, this generalization is obviously at least partially incorrect on the surface without any exploration at all depending on that factor of which master is being used. Need music? Try /r/audiophilemusicĭo you have any references of anything approaching valid study of this bold assertion that MP3 sounds the "same" as MQA? The masters used for the releases can vary, beyond the more obvious factor of file type itself. Subreddit's theme is /r/Minimaluminiumalism.
